About Canal and River Cruises Ltd
London from a Different Perspective
Canal and River Cruises Ltd are a private London Canal Boat Trips Charter operator, and specialise in day trips on the Grand Union and Regent’s Canals amidst the calm of Little Venice and Regent’s Park and the hustle and bustle of Camden with its world famous Camden Lock Market but your can book us for trips further afield too.
Enjoy London from a different perspective with a fantastic value narrowboat cruise with Canal and River Cruises Ltd. Capture the excitement of the London Canals and River Lee aboard narrowboat ‘Lady A’, spectacular views providing a whole new perspective on the magnificent City of London. The current company was formed by Mike Beveridge in September 2011 but previous owners have operated Lady A in and around London since 2007. Mike’s love of canals started on a school canal holiday in 1973 and he first worked on the canals of the UK in Yorkshire in 1976, as a British Waterways surveyor based in Castleford. After an exciting career in airlines Mike moved into the world of the internet and was hand writing web based applications in the very earliest days of the internet eventually leaving British Midland to start his own IT Company, Enhance Software Solutions Ltd. With the development of mobile internet services it is easier than ever to live and work on a narrowboat and Mike’s personal boat, Globetrotter, has been his home for many years and is a regular visitor to London. Holding a MCA Passenger Boat Skipper’s licence it seemed only natural to return to the world of canals and the opportunity to take over Canal and River Cruises was the perfect excuse to resume a life of boating. Mike also owns the fabulous old working boat Banstead, built in 1935 for the Grand Union Canal Carrying Company, which can often be seen on the Grand Union Canal and boat festivals. Banstead is the star of the 1964 Galton and Simpson comedy The Bargee, which starred Harry H Corbett and Ronnie Barker as the boatmen.
Parties of up to 12 are can hire our narrowboat Lady A, with skipper, for a couple or three hours. Why not book our boat for your party and bring your own food and drinks along for a special occasion. Or ask us for a private guided tour of London’s canals with commentary and learn about the history and living aboard on the English canals.
Let us collect you from Little Venice (close to Paddington) or for a little extra, Camden or Greenford, Perivale, Alperton, Acton, Park Royal, Kensal Green, Ladbroke Grove, Islington, London Canal Museum, City Road or even as far as Limehouse and Stratford to see the site of the London 2012 Olympic Games site. Our home base is Little Venice, so we do make an extra charge for picking up or dropping off elsewhere – please ask for a quotation. Whilst this offer still stands in 2016, unfortunately the Regents Canal is changing character and becoming more and more congested to the east, and so our longer trips are not quite as easy to arrange as they once were. Please ask though!
‘Lady A’ is a modern custom built 45 ft narrowboat licensed to carry up to 12 passengers.
Lady A has a large foredeck, most popular with our customers, seating up to 10 (or even 12) around a single table. This focal point of the boat has open sides for the summer, and bright winter days too and canopies to protect you from the elements plus an infra-red heating panel when the weather isn’t so nice.
The forward saloon has a cushioned seating with table, and a large open deck at the back is available to stretch your legs.
We have running water and a toilet onboard too plus gas central heating throughout the cabin for those colder days.
If you are fascinated by the idea of spending a few hours on a relaxing ‘Lady A’ cruise contact us via email or phone on 07899 800856; we will be very pleased to plan your ideal cruise in London.
